Jayne Sparks, a potty-mouthed, rebellious seventeen-year-old and her best friend, shy and bookish Tony Green, have a pretty typical high school existence, until several seemingly unrelated incidents converge, causing a cascade of events that change their lives forever.
Jayne and Tony, together with a group of runaway teens, are hijacked and sent into a forest, where nothing and no one are as they seem.
Who will emerge triumphant?
And what will they be when they do?
Mild violence and significant foul language within.

I read this book years ago, and it still has the power to suck me in within its first few lines. Jayne is a sarcastic, mildly anti-social girl who’s feared by most if not admired from afar. Her scary reputation creates a private world for her and Tony, her best friend and confidant. I absolutely love their relationship, how close they can be and still be so comfortable with each other despite being opposite sexes. She keeps him alive and he keeps her sane (and out of jail).
“What’s he doing?” asked Tony. “What’s that… stuff around his head?”
“How the fuck do I know? Maybe he’s going to turn into a vampire now.”
We watched as his features quivered and changed. They became less wolfish and more mannish.
Becky whispered, “I think he’s turning into a guy…”
Sure enough. Where there was once a wolf standing, there was now a man. A very naked one. A very hot naked one.
He snarled at me.
A very hot, naked, angry one.
This book is amazingly epic. You go from the boring classroom to a whole new secret world. The change in atmosphere is one of the things I love most about this book, its ability to take me to all these new places and maintain that exciting roll.
The Changelings is one of the few books I use to compare with other potential reads. If I want a competition setting with fantasy, humor, sarcasm and suspense, I immediately think of this book. In all honesty, I haven’t found a book quite like this, yet, but I haven’t given up.
Jayne is the typical bad girl with a unique gift that completely changes her life. But with Tony by her side, she can survive anything. Running away, shady people, killer monsters. She’s totally got it.
