It’s been two months since Perry Palomino and Dex Foray’s relationship reached a new turning point, two months since Perry started a new life in Seattle, and two months since their Experiment in Terror show took on a new partner, ex-Wine Babe Rebecca Sims, and found a new level of success.
But whenever there is light in their lives, the madness still has a way of coming back in.
When the team is sent back to the stormy Oregon coast to investigate a haunted school, Perry wants to use the opportunity to reconnect with her family and reintroduce Dex into their lives. Only Perry’s not the only one who’s reaching out – her grandmother Pippa has started appearing to her with disturbing warnings and Perry’s presence at the school has ignited a chilling new wave of supernatural phenomenon.
Once used a century ago as a sanatorium to house children dying of tuberculosis, the school’s past residents are slowly coming back to life and with one thing on their mind. They want someone to play with, someone to join them. Forever.
Even when dead, some children get whatever they want.
And they want Perry.

Well this was fucking scary.
“Time has no bearing on the truth. And what we have, that’s true as fucking anything.”
I mentioned that I was a bit late to this party, wanting to wait for all the books to be out before continuing. Come Alive was from Dex’s POV and a bit of a let down emotional-wise because 1) he gets fucking targeted by a bitch I really don’t want to talk about right now and 2) it was an entire book of horniness and turning away from Perry because of outside forces.
Reading this felt like coming home, like I was coming back to something familiar and good and- God, I just got hit with the feels all over again, and I loved hearing Perry’s voice once more. Her insecurities were a bit hard to handle because- let’s face it, it’s been eight books and I’m starting to wonder just how much she’s improved when it comes to being sure about their love. Like, fucking shit, are you seriously still wondering? Questioning? After everything???
But she’s human and I have to respect and understand and relate to those insecurities. She’s come a long way. So I can understand when she starts to go on a tangent, or when he acts odd and she starts to doubt herself. What I didn’t understand was that bit with Rebecca. It seemed to come out from left field.
Or maybe I’m just tired of the world trying to pull Perry and Dex apart lol. Either way, it all was still great. And fucking creepy MYGODLIKEWHATTHEFUUUUCK. This is the creepiest it’s ever gotten! I was reading this in broad daylight and I still had to duck down into the couch for some comfort. And the big reveal on the school? Yikes. But so good.
If you haven’t read this series, you seriously need to stop dragging your ass and get into this horror amazeballs. Perry is an adorably jaded young woman with a lot to offer the world, and Dex is the very man to help her out. They’re honestly my top three choices for Favorite Couples, hanging out up right there next to Karen Marie Moning’s Barrons and Mac. They drive each other crazy, they’re both kinda fucking insane, but they’re so true and honest and deep that most times, I don’t know what I love most: them being together or the feelings they give me. I’m already reading the final installment and can’t wait to share my thoughts on it, as well.
