Review Blitz: Awaken by Michelle Bryan

The world is broken. Tara is alone. But within her a power grows.

The Shift destroyed the world. All that remains is the harsh and unforgiving sand lands. Food is scarce; water even more so. And Tara has just discovered that she’s been lied to her entire life. The world as she knows it does not exist. She is not the ordinary girl she thought herself to be. Instead, she is one of a unique breed known as New Bloods – revered by some, hunted by others.

Tara is no stranger to hardship. But when her village is destroyed and the young people are taken by the merciless Prezedant, she must quickly learn how much of a fighter she can become.

Gathering a ragtag fellowship on her way, she embarks on a quest into the unknown to find what remains of her family. Little does she realise how dangerous it will be. Or how it will change her- and perhaps the world -forever.

michelle-bryanI wish I could tell you I’ve climbed Mt. Everest or taken a hot air balloon ride around the world, but alas I lead a very quiet life in Nova Scotia, Canada. The only adventures I go on are in books. But what adventures they are!

When I’m not reading or writing, I manage a chocolate shop. That’s right; I work with both books and chocolate. Living the dream.

The rest of my time is spent with my three favourite guys; my hubby, my son, and my crazy fur baby. We are a family of geeks. Fans of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, lovers of books of any genre, and players of video games. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Review

Dear Reader,

This was a pretty cool read. It’s a dystopian world that’s struggled to survive, filled with poor villages in the sand lands just trying to see a good crop year. Tara’s life is simple enough, but it’s full of people she loves. She wouldn’t have it any other way… until they come.

Tragedy sends her searching for a place she didn’t think existed. There is civilization beyond the sand lands. Functioning, thriving cities filled with more luxuries than she would’ve ever thought possible. It’s a new world for Tara and the friends she accumulates, but with every new step they take, it becomes much clearer that Tara is in fact part of this new world, and she’ll continue to be buried deeper if she doesn’t get help.

So the story line was fun, a great adventure with interesting characters. Tara’s mind was something else, a little scary when it came to figuring out the sweeter things of life. She just wants to get her family back, but with all the new things coming at her, expecting her to accept it and go with what they say, I could understand how that’d be overwhelming.

I liked the world building and writing style, it was consistent that got spiced up with the hint of romance from a certain diamond in the rough (hopeless romantic here). In the long haul, it was really fun seeing her interact with the others. I wish I knew a little more about the New Bloods and the Prezedant but otherwise, I was quite satisfied with what I was left with. Be wary of the cliffhanger lol.

If you like the adventure stories, totally check this out. I recommend it for the others’ character development and the adorable Finn.

Happy Reading,

A Little Darling
