Ascension by Michelle Bryan

A shining city promises death. Tara must go there anyway.

In this thrilling sequel to Awaken, Tara must choose between the impossible. She knows she isn’t the person everyone wants her to be; wants nothing to do with the rebellion and strange powers that are as likely to kill her friends as her enemies. But the Prezedant has Ben, her only remaining kin. She made a promise to save him. A promise she can only keep if she tries anyway.

When they finally reach the seat of the Prezedant’s power, a masquerade ball becomes the perfect stage to set in motion a plan to save Ben. It will begin and end there in a battle against the tyrant and a daring escape that will shake the world.

It will shake Tara, too, as she learns truths that change everything she had believed about herself.

Dear Reader,

I really liked the first book’s vibes and continued the series with a certain expectation that was met. By the time I finished, I was pretty satisfied and appreciated how much this was starting to finally come off as a ‘Coming-Of-Age’ story for me. Before it used to be another Dystopian with some good world build-up, but by Ascension, I got more heartfelt scenes, more action and a few more reasons to cry over the events that occurred.

Tara is still just as stubborn and hardheaded as she was in the first book, but it’s the joys of being young, and in all honesty, I’d rather she be a pusher than get constantly pushed around. She’s involved in a lot of heady things, and as a young girl, I thought her adventures were pretty fun to follow. My favorite part about all this would have to be the world itself, I could get lost in its cities and dangerous wastelands. Recommended if you love YA Dystopia and action-packed stories.

Happy Reading,

A Little Darling
