Strokes, Bea Paige

He told me I was his muse. He lied.

Anton Sachov, the artist, the man who only sees in monochrome.

He wants something from me.

Something precious; the meadow green of my eyes, the rich mahogany of my hair, the creamy white of my skin, the stark red of my blood, even the darkness of my soul. And he will do anything to get them.

Including the unthinkable, locking me away.

Dear Reader,

I love dark things and romance but since I’m not in the romantic mood, I’ll say the beginning of this was a little too sappy for my taste. It was like having to watch those soap operas where you don’t know if you should take these things seriously or if someone got just a little too artistic with reality. Everything else, though? Fucking brilliant.

Paige has a really weird way of making dark things come off as elegant. After reading the book, I honestly couldn’t help but admire her ability to do that. She talks about a lot of things that are triggering, but the way she writes them, is almost like a somber dance across some black marble floors. It’s alluring and smooth and you never feel the jagged blades against your skin until you’re crying.

I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll say that I admire the way Rose goes about each man differently while also finding a new part of herself… or rather, allowing a hidden layer to be revealed alongside the new reveal of [insert current main guy’s name]. For Ivan, it was being able to embrace her demon and help him find his way with her firm hand. For Anton, it was being able to go into his world and figure out how his brain worked. She needed to be able to see what he did to better direct him. Rose was able to see herself in a new light, but I loved how she could progress even when other things went on. There’s nothing better than progress and watching a character develop, so if it wasn’t the hot sex or frightening suspense keeping me entertained, it was the way they all could still grow and surprise me. I really loved it all.

It’s a definite recommend if you love dark romances, and I can’t wait for the third installment.

Happy Reading,

A Little Darling
